There are many scriptures with the promises of God about not leaving us alone in times of trouble – He has promised us that we will never see evil. If we look today, bad things are happening in the world and it is affecting the Christians too. This has made people start to question the promises of God and then this doubt gave birth to the question, will God protect from harm?
If anyone asks you this question and you answer with a yes, the next thing will be, why is God allowing people or Christians to suffer? This question is not rhetorical, it has an answer – to answer this question, a distinctive answer must be given.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Isaiah 41:10 KJV
To answer this, we must know the source of harm in the world. The first thing we should know is that, in the beginning, God created heaven and earth – he created the beasts in it and He made everything perfect. After God had created all of these, He saw that it was good.
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31
This verse of the Bible indicates that God, from the beginning, did not create any harm. Everything He created was good. Harm came into the world through Satan deceiving the man that God created in His image.
So what happened is that Satan brought the harm but it has no power over the man until the man consented. When they allow “harm” into the world – it became glued to the world and everyone that is born into this world tends facing it.
Another question based on this answer is that, if harm is in the world now through the deceit of Satan, Jesus has died for men, why is it that the harm persists? The bible says in Deuteronomy 30:19.
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV
This means that everyone has the right to pick the way they want to go. The greatest power that God has given man is the ability to make choices. This God speaking here – there is life, there is safety, there is peace; also, there is death, there is harm. God is telling us to pick one.
No one would ever want to pick death but the things that man does bring death. Everything bad that is happening in the world causing harm to people is caused by the people. There is greed, there is hatred, there is lust, there is a different kind of evil in the world and what these will result in is harm. The activities of man and the sins of man are topnotch of what is causing harm in the world right now.
Will God ever protect us from harm?
The answer is yes. There are tons of bible scriptures with the promises of God that he will protect us, God cannot lie. God is not biased; He wants to protect everyone but to be protected one has to run to him.
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”
Proverbs 18:10 KJV
It is not possible to be protected from danger if you are running towards danger. To be protected from danger, you will have to run to safety. God will protect us from any harm but we will have to run to God to be protected. So what do we do to be protected by God?
1. Run to Him through Jesus Christ
One of the ways that anyone can get access to God, that person must go through Christ.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6 KJV
The role of Jesus in this is that through His blood, everyone going to the father will be washed and they will be presented to the Father through the blood of Jesus. God cannot behold iniquities – this is why we must first go to Christ for sanctification, then we will have unlimited access to God. this is a way to stay out of no harm.
2. Do the right thing
One of the most leading factors that cause harm to many people and Christians is because they have refused to do the right thing. Using a road accident as an analogy. On a road that the speed limit is 40KPH, any car that speeds up to 100KPH, there could be an accident.
If an accident happens, that driver did not do the right thing and no one is to be blamed for any harm caused by himself. It is impossible to be praying that God protects us from harm and yet continue to do the things that will bring harm.
It is clearly written and boldly that smoking kills faster but people still chose to smoke. God is trying to protect you but you have to do the right thing.
“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
James 4:17 KJV
What are the right things to do?
• Obedience. To obey is the best thing that one can do to be safe from harm. When you are being told to do things that will protect you from harm and you obey, you are putting yourself in the position to be saved. King Saul did not obey God, the greatest harm that disobedience brought to him is that he lost the throne – God rejected him.
“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
1 Samuel 15:22 KJV
• Prayer. It is good to follow all the precautions to stay safe but one must pray. It is important to pray to God to be saved from harm. God will surely answer that prayer and will protect you.
3. Let love spread
Why spread evil when we know it is capable of spreading harm? God is love and if we want Him to protect us, we will have to spread love. If there is love, there would be no reason for one to plan evil against the other.
